Epiphyllum 'American Sweetheart'

Epiphyllum 'American Sweetheart' is an orchid cactus that shows off soft pink blooms with layers of delicately ruffled petals, each edged with a warm touch of peach-orange on the outer whorls. The combination of pastel tones and the radiant central glow make this hybrid especially graceful and eye-catching when in flower.

Distinctive Features

• Stems: Flattened, segmented stems that resemble leaves. The stems are typically a bright green colour and have a waxy texture.
• Flowers: Produces large, showy flowers in a vibrant salmon-pink colour. The numerous petals have a beautiful, open shape resembling a star and a delicate fragrance.
• Growth Habit: This Epiphyllum has a pendant, epiphytic growth habit. It naturally grows on trees and other surfaces, using its aerial roots to cling to the bark. It can also be grown in hanging baskets or on shelves where its stems can cascade gracefully.

Care Tips

• Light: Bright, indirect light is best. Avoid harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the stems.
• Water: Allow the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. During the flowering period, keep the soil evenly moist but not soggy.
• Humidity: This Epiphyllum appreciates moderate to high humidity. You can increase humidity by using a humidifier, placing the plant on a pebble tray filled with water, or misting the stems regularly.
