Epiphyllum 'Kiwi Crusader'

Epiphyllum 'Kiwi Crusader' is an orchid cactus hybrid that makes a bold display with its brilliant, multi-layered flowers. The broad petals open in shades of hot pink that soften toward the tips, while outer petals carry coral-red tones for extra contrast. Like other Epiphyllum hybrids, it grows with flat, trailing stems that can spill from hanging baskets or cascade over pots, producing its flowers mainly in spring and summer.

• Stems: Flattened, segmented stems that resemble leaves. The stems are typically a bright green colour and have a waxy texture.
• Flowers: Produces large, showy flowers in a vibrant, radiant red colour. The flowers have a beautiful, open shape resembling a starburst and a delicate fragrance.
• Growth Habit: This Epiphyllum has a pendant, epiphytic growth habit. It naturally grows on trees and other surfaces, using its aerial roots to cling to the bark. It can also be grown in hanging baskets or on shelves where its stems can cascade gracefully.

Care Tips

• Light: Bright, indirect light is best. Avoid harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the stems.
• Water: Allow the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. During the flowering period, keep the soil evenly moist but not soggy.
• Humidity: This Epiphyllum appreciates moderate to high humidity. You can increase humidity by using a humidifier, placing the plant on a pebble tray filled with water, or misting the stems regularly.
• Temperature: Maintain warm temperatures between 18-24°C (65-75°F). Avoid exposing this cactus to cold draughts or frost.
• Fertiliser: Use a diluted cactus fertiliser once a month during the growing season (spring and summer).
