Cymbidium 'Pink Delight'

Cymbidium 'Pink Delight'

Cymbidium ((Claude Pepper × Red Beauty) × Red Beauty) 'Pink Delight' is a line I've grown on and off for a while now. It carries the depth and shape you'd expect from Red Beauty, reinforced by having it on both sides of the parentage. The plants throw tall, clean spikes that sit well above the foliage, and it's one I've mostly kept as a cut-flower type because it holds surprisingly well once cut.

Care

  • Light: Bright, filtered light. Handles a bit of morning sun.
  • Water: Keep evenly moist in the growing season; ease off in winter.
  • Temperature: Cool-intermediate. Needs cold winter nights to initiate spikes.
  • Media: Standard Cymbidium bark mix with good drainage.
  • Feeding: Regular fertiliser through spring and summer. Reduce as temperatures drop.

Key Characteristics

  • Parentage: ((Claude Pepper × Red Beauty) × Red Beauty)
  • Bloom colour: Deep red tones with a clean, rounded form.
  • Flower size: Approximately 9 cm blooms.
  • Spike habit: Tall, upright spikes suited to cutting.
  • Flower count: Expect around 12-20 flowers per spike.
  • Season: August-September under Victorian conditions.
  • Longevity: Notably long-lasting flowers, both on the plant and as cut stems.
